Fall Detection Medical Alert Systems
Fall detection technology quickly connects you to help after a fall, even if you can’t press your button.
Learn MoreAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one out of four seniors living at home fall each year and many who fall start cutting down on daily activities out of fear of another fall. Reduced activity can make these seniors weaker and increase their likelihood of falling again.
Automatic fall detection provides confidence that you can get the help you need quickly after a fall.*
What is Automatic Fall Detection Technology?
When your help button detects a fall, our Trained Care Specialists will contact you immediately through the system’s two-way speaker—even if you are unable to press your button. If you cannot speak, our Trained Care Specialists will dispatch the appropriate help.
How Does Automatic Fall Detection Work?
Accelerometers
These sensors will measure a high acceleration force when a fall occurs.
Barometric Sensors
These highly sensitive sensors can detect a very small change in barometric pressure such as one from a standing position to laying on the floor.
A Finely Tuned Algorithm
Our finely tuned algorithm differentiates between true falls and false alarms. It is the most important part of our technology.

What Happens When a Fall is Detected?
When a fall is detected, your Lifeline medical alert system connects quickly to our Response Center, even if you’re unconscious or unable to move. The two-way voice communication capability enables you to speak directly with one of our Trained Care Specialists. They talk with you, assess the situation, and dispatch the help you need. If the Trained Care Specialist is unable to make verbal contact with you, they may default to calling emergency services.

Automatic fall detection is an optional add-on for your Lifeline system that senses when a fall occurs and automatically alerts a Trained Care Specialist — even if you are unable to press your button.
The button uses accelerometers to measure sudden changes in force and barometric sensors to detect changes in pressure — such as moving from standing to lying on the floor. A finely tuned algorithm then determines whether the movement is a true fall or everyday activity, helping to reduce false alarms.
A Trained Care Specialist will contact you immediately through the system’s two-way speaker to assess your situation. If you need help, they will dispatch the appropriate assistance. If they are unable to reach you verbally, they will send help to your location.
If our Trained Care Specialists are unable to make verbal contact with you, they will dispatch emergency services to your location regardless.
Fall detection is available as an optional add-on on the HomeSafe, On the Go, and Smartwatch systems.
Fall detection technology does not detect 100% of all falls. We always recommend pressing your button whenever you need help, even if you have fall detection enabled.
Fall detection is available for an additional $15 per month added to your Lifeline plan.
